Launched in 2011, Magpie is a London-based studio who design and manufacture homewares and gifts – all with a distinctly British edge. Drawing on UK talent, Magpie has had successful collaborations with artist Tom Frost, interiors brand Mini Moderns and in autumn 2013 will launch collections with textile designer Carola van Dyke and illustrator, printer and writer Nicholas John Frith.
Drawing on childhood memories of teatime with Granny, camping trips in the woods and seaside jaunts, Magpie’s range of products aim to raise a smile. Just like their namesake, the magpie, the company are inveterate hoarders and love to have their collections displayed around them. Even their double magpie logo (paying homage to the childhood rhyme about magpies: two is for joy) acknowledges their passion. With good eco credentials too (their products are cruelty-free, e.g. ceramics are all Porcelain rather than Bone China, and suitable for vegans) they are a firm favourite at Cotswold Trading.
