Cedric Morris was a key figure in the British Modern tradition, known for his unique contributions as both a painter and a botanist. A contemporary and friend of artists like Ben and Winifred Nicholson, Paul Nash and Christopher Wood, he was at the forefront of the British avant-garde. Morris painted portraits, still-lifes and landscapes inspired by his extensive travels. However, he is best known for his flower paintings, which highlight his deep interest in botany. As a plantsman, he cultivated over 90 new irises, achieving national recognition for both his art and his horticultural work.
